Bengaluru Police lodged a criminal case
against a woman for making "objectionable posts"on her Facebook page
which allegedly depicted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in
"poor light."
A First Information Report or FIR was filed against the woman on complaint of BJP Yuva Morcha members, said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) S Ravi.
"The BJP Yuva Morcha members filed a complaint against Prabha N Belavangala for uploading objectionable posts on her Facebook page, depicting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister in a poor light," Ravi told PTI.
In its complaint, the BJP Yuva Morcha accused the woman of posting "obscene, morphed and tampered" images, purported to be of UP Chief Minister Adityanath, on the social media site, he said.
He said the FIR has been filed under Indian Penal Code sections pertaining to defamation, promoting enmity on grounds of religion, conducing mischief besides offences under the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Bengaluru city BJP Yuva Morcha president Sapthagiri Gowda claimed the images prima facie appear to be morphed and digitally tampered, and also "depicted Adityanath in a very poor light and is highly defamatory in nature."
He also alleged that Prabha has acted knowing fully well that it would cause the breach of public peace and also argued that the Facebook posts violate several penal provisions.
Section 153A relates to promoting enmity between two groups on grounds of religion, race, place or birth, residence or language and 292A to printing of grossly indecent or scurrilous matter.
IPC Section 499 pertains to defamation and 500 to punishment for defamation, while 505 is about "statement conducing to public mischief."
Mr Gowda alleged that Prabha is a "habitual mischief and rumour monger" and had even earlier tried to create disharmony in society by publishing inflammatory content on Facebook.
"FIRs had also been lodged against her earlier as well, for similar offences," Mr Gowda claimed.

Clearly,
we are moving on. From the tales of the Cow Brigades, we now hear of
the Student Brigades, both of which terrify and assault but claim they
do it for the higher purpose of Mother India. The violence against
students in Ramjas College, Delhi University, comes cyclically a year
after the events that put JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) in the news
and made it a flashpoint for subsequent protest followed by a ham-handed
crackdown.
First let’s clarify a few things about the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi
Parishad (ABVP) that’s unleashed vicious propaganda and violence against
those who disagree with their idea of India. It is not the student’s
wing of the BJP in the manner that the National Students Union of India
(NSUI) is of the Congress or the Students Federation of India (SFI) is
of the CPI (M). The ABVP was founded in 1948 while the BJP was born in
1980 after the collapse of the old Jan Sangh.
The ABVP is technically the students wing of the RSS hence its
ideological orientation is not moderated and it is actually answerable
to RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat and not BJP President Amit Shah. The
BJP actually is the big national party that does not have a students’
wing that fights elections in universities. It does, however, have a
youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) that often works
with the ABVP. Of course, the technicalities apart, they are all part of
the ideological fraternity of the RSS.
There are some BJP leaders who have come through the ABVP and not the
RSS, which means that they did not necessarily spend their growing years
in khaki shorts. Finance minister Arun Jaitley, for instance, was very
active in the ABVP in Delhi University the 70s and rose to be presidents
of the students union, an effort for which he spent 19 months in jail
during the Emergency declared in 1975. Among the current crop, the
culture and tourism minister Mahesh Sharma spent a childhood in the RSS
and youth in the ABVP.
Clearly the clout of the ABVP has increased since the BJP’s electoral
win in 2014. The difference now is that they believe they can act
without any consequences. What is deeply worrying about their assault on
campuses is that they have succeeded in inverting the idea of protest
altogether. As they have no worthy intellectual tradition to peddle
except for the mediocre (and bizarre) observations of some of the
rightwing ideologues, they have taken it upon themselves to act as
vigilantes against other points of views.
At the heart of the psyche of an average ABVP foot-soldier is a deep
inferiority complex about the Nehruvian liberal and left wing ideas,
both of which draw from a more robust intellectual tradition. Those who
try to defend the ABVP would often suggest that there was a stranglehold
in academia of leftists and they would be right that universities have
had academic cliques that exclude those who did not belong. Equally true
would be the fact that the right wing just has a poor intellectual
tradition, beginning with those who pass for their founding fathers and
ideologues.
Yet their cretinism should not let anyone underestimate their ability to
succeed in politics. They understand power, they pack muscle and know
how to use it. In a dystopian age, their ideas of nation worship and
working with prejudice works rather well. They know how to hate, be it
communists, liberals, minorities, the list is long and growing.
Being an informal wing of the ruling party at the Centre also means that
more than ever, the frontal student organizations of the right wing are
cash rich. We therefore have a systematic assault on the ideas of
protests itself.
Street plays, spoofs, protest gatherings, seminars against actions of
the state, should be part of any healthy democratic tradition and should
certainly be happening on campuses across India, a country that was
liberated from colonial rule though protest. If the ABVP were to have
its way (as it appears to be doing) they would put an end to any
articulation of critical thought on campuses.
All they have to offer as replacement is their crude notion of nation
worship. Mother India is basically an emblem to shut down all dissent by
describing it as anti national. Go though their literature, pamphlets
and stated goals and no one can be in any doubt that these are forces
that deal with the base human emotion and have limited capacity for
higher thought.

JNU professor attacked by protesters from BJP youth wing in Gwalior
According to reports, he escaped unhurt after a clash broke out at a symposium in Madhya Pradesh.

attacked during a symposium at Gwalior's Bal Bhawan on Sunday. He was
giving a speech on "Baba Saheb Ke Sapno Ka Bhartiya Samaj" (Indian
society as envisioned by Baba Saheb) when clashes broke out between two
groups, reported the Hindustan Times.
The HT report identified the groups as the Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party, and the Ambedkar Vichar Manch. They battled with lathis and firing in the air was also witnessed. At least one activist from the Ambedkar Vichar Manch, Dinesh Maurya, was hurt while reports said that Professor Kumar escaped unhurt.
Eyewitnesses accounts suggested that the clashes were set off after Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha members tore up Ambedkarite literature outside the venue. Angry Ambedkar Vichar Manch activists blocked the roads and shouted slogans criticising the Narendra Modi government and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
The police filed a First Information Report against Vivek Sharma, the district president of the Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha, and 100 unknown persons, the Hindustan Times report said.
Sharma, in his defence told the newspaper that charges against him were "false and fabricated" while JNU Prof Vivek Kumar’s speech was "provocative and anti-national.

NEW DELHI: Months after home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde created a political furore by saying RSS and BJP were "promoting Hindu terrorism", National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a youth wing leader from the saffron party in connection with the murder of former RSS pracharak Sunil Joshi. This is the first arrest of a BJP leader in connection with Hindutva terror cases.
Late on Saturday night, NIA arrested Jitendra Sharma, vice-president of Indore rural unit of BJP's youth wing Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha from Mhow for facilitating Joshi's killing. TOI had first reported on the probable arrest of Jitendra Sharma in February.
Mastermind of several blasts, including those in Samjhauta Express, Mecca Masjid and Malegaon targeting minorities, Joshi was killed by his own associates in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh in December 2007. Hindutva terror accused Lokesh Sharma and Rajendra Chaudhary, arrested by NIA in connection with Samjhauta Express and Malegaon blasts, allegedly killed Joshi due to a dispute over a liquor shop that they owned along with him and the alleged misbehavior of the RSS pracharak with Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts.
According to sources, Jitendra not only gave shelter to various Hindutva terror accused on several occasions but even arranged for the weapon used in Joshi's murder and then hid it at the residence of one Dilip Jagtap. After his arrest, Lokesh had led NIA to Jagtap's house from where the pistol was recovered from a pile of bricks. Jagtap, now in jail and related to a local Congress corporator, was the custodian of all arms and ammunition used by the group.
Interestingly, Jitendra is Lokesh's cousin and has also represented him as a lawyer in court in the cases against him.
"Jitendra has been the frontman for all the activities that the Hindutva group carried out. He provided logistics, shelter and then legal help to all the accused," said an officer privy to investigation details.
Though Jitendra was interrogated earlier too, he was not arrested as the agency was low on evidence. Sources said over the past few months, some of the accused have given statements against him under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (admissible as evidence) while certain others have expressed their desire to become approvers in the case.

BJP youth wing vandalises theatre, disrupts film on Kashmir

Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), youth wing of the BJP, disrupted a short film show on Kashmir and allegedly assaulted the show organisers after barging into the L.V. Prasad preview theatre at Banjara Hills here on Saturday afternoon.
The attackers were accompanied by a Kashmiri pandit, Rahul Razdan, working as software engineer here. The group barged into the theatre raising slogans against the organisers claiming that the movie was against the Indian government and the Army.
They damaged furniture and glasses and ransacked whatever object was on their way. The mob first went into the projector room on the third floor, destroyed the monitor and tried to take away a laptop. Filmmaker Siddartha Gigoo, who was invited for the show, too was assaulted.
The show was part of the film festival, “Kashmir, Before Our Eyes.” It was held in few other cities across the country earlier.
The Banjara Hills police said Rahul had come to the theatre along with the BJYM workers claiming that they would observe a ‘silent protest.’
“We have caught nine of them, including Rahul, after a chase,” the police said. Cases under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 145 (joining or continuing unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons) and 353 (deterring a public servant from discharging his duties) of the IPC were registered against them.
Ajay Raina, filmmaker and curator of the festival, said 50-60 students led by a Kashmiri pandit barged into the venue just before the screening was to start and began to smash the equipment. “They injured one person and stole my laptop which had all the films we planned to screen. However, we have decided not to cower before vandalism,” he said.

As many as 50 people disrupted ‘Kashmir - Before Our Eyes’- a six-day film festival which was scheduled to be conducted at Prasad’s labs on Saturday afternoon, a documentary filmmaker whose work was supposed to be screened on Saturday evening said.
“There were hardly around 5-6 people at the venue when around 50 people barged into the control room of the Prasad Labs’ preview theatre. They broke glass windows and vandalised equipment used for screening and took away one Ajay Raina’s laptop, who is a film maker and the curator” Sanjay Kak, a documentary filmmaker said.
“We were trying to show different shades of Kashmir in the festival, if anybody had any issue, it could have been sorted out by talking but such attacks were not called for” Subhadra Jalali, one of the organiser said and added that all the filmmakers are migrants from Kashmir. Sanjay informed that a young technician working at the lab was hospitalised after he was beaten up by the mob when he stopped them from snatching away the laptop.
“I don’t think he knows anything about the issue, the innocent boy was beaten up by the mob”, informed Subhadra. “The mob also attacked and tried to drag me to the ground floor, but I resisted” Sanjay said. An organiser said that the talks were going on at the venue as per schedule and the remaining programs will be conducted at another venue.
The festival was conducted successfully in other states and it is scheduled to be held at Pune and Delhi in the end of this month.
