Remembering Mukul Sinha: Torchbearer of a Legacy of Defending Truth, Justice & Democracy
Date: Tuesday, 20th May, at 5.30 pm
Venue: Basement, 576, Masjid Road, Jungpura, New Delhi 14
Dear friends,
Lawyer Activist, Mukul Sinha succumbed to lung cancer in Ahmedabad on May 12. He was 63. A trade union activist, Sinha also fought many landmark battles for civil liberties and justice, valiantly keeping alive the hope of justice for victims of communal pogroms and custodial murders. In a relentless pursuit for justice he challenged an authoritarian regime, and the battles continue to be fought. Mukul Sinha will also be remembered for assisting families of fake encounter victims in Manipur to secure justice. The result was a landmark report by the Commission that declared all the ‘encounters’ to be cold-blooded murders.
While democracy and rights of workers, minorities, women, sexual minorities, Dalits, adivasis and activists will continue to face extreme challenges, it is time for us to take new resolves to continue the fight. Perhaps, this will be the most fitting tribute to comrade Mukul Sinha.
The likes of Mukul Sinha do not die – they live on in the struggles they inspired and in the courage and perseverance of other activists. We invite you to join us in remembering Mukul Sinha and reaffirming our resolve to carry forward his legacy for truth and justice.
