The RSS will soon be replacing the leather belt in its uniform with a synthetic one.
“The decision to replace the leather belt with synthetic one will come into effect this year from Sangh Shiksha Varga,” said Manmohan Vaidya, the RSS’s Akhil Bhartiya Prachar Pramukh, on Tuesday. Also, the buckle of the belt would be of steel instead of brass. Sources said the change follows reservations expressed by members of a certain community about use of leather as it was made of animal skin.
Asked whether the RSS would make any other changes, particularly replacing the half pants, he said there would be no other change.
Vaidya said the RSS would bank on the technology to reach out to people. “We formed an IT cell in Bangalore a few years ago and now similar cells are operating from other cities too to widen our network,” he added.
