JAIPUR: With the arrest of Gujarat-based Harshad Solanki and two others by Madhya Pradesh (MP) police in connection with Sunil Joshi's murder, Rajasthan ATS's claims about four youths who had disappeared after the murder appear to be true.

In the chargesheet of Ajmer dargah blast case, the Rajasthan ATS had claimed four youths Raj, Mehul, Ghanshyam and Ustad had disappeared after Joshi's murder about two months after the blast. Joshi is alleged to be the key conspirator of the Ajmer dargah blast who was working directly under some leaders' of Hindu organisations.

The ATS suspected the same youths were involved in Joshi's murder. Now the MP police claim Harshad Solanki, who was staying with Sunil Joshi till he was murdered, had shot dead Joshi to cover up the involvement of senior RSS leaders in the blast. Harshad had changed his identity and took the name of Raj while staying in MP. Harshad and Mukesh Vasani had been arrested by Rajasthan ATS from Gujarat for allegedly being involved in Ajmer dargah blast. Solanki was also allegedly involved in Gujarat's Best Bakery case.

The chargesheet had stated the agency found some diaries belonging to Sunil Joshi which contained the names of his four close associates -Raj, Mehul, Ghanshyam and Ustad.

"Sunil Joshi was RSS's pramukh pracharak in Jamtada district of Jharkhand and earlier in Mhow district of Madhya Pradesh. He had a strong network and the youths were part of it," said a police officer.

Sunil was shot dead near Dewas Bypass Road in Madhya Pradesh. The miscreants fled. "As Sunil was a hardcore RSS activist, it was assumed that SIMI workers could be involved. But the murder was never solved," said the officer. Rajasthan ATS sources said MP police was not probing the matter seriously till Harshad was arrested.

Since a year before his murder, Sunil Joshi was staying at a rented accommodation on Devas Bypass under an assumed name and in disguise. Strangely, the four youths identified by ATS as Raj, Mehul, Ghanshyam and Ustad associated with Sunil also disappeared. The agencies did not know their whereabouts.

"Raj's name had come up when we found the diaries belonging to Sunil Joshi. In Harshad's arrest, the diaries played an important role," said the officer.

Harshad Solanki and Mukesh Vasani were recently taken to MP for interrogation. Rajasthan ATS feared that in the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, the police might try to cover up the involvement of Hindu organisation's senior leaders, including Indresh Kumar, in the Ajmer dargah blast, sources said. Rajasthan's home minister Shanti Dhariwal had earlier claimed the MP government was trying to hush up the matter.

"The fact that Harshad and Mukesh were in MP police custody had raised doubts, but it seems that investigation is going in the right direction now," said a senior police officer.
