A 300-strong mob tries to attack Christian families at Kurtamgarh village
BHUBANESWAR: At least two persons were killed and a CRPF jawan was injured in a fresh incident of communal violence in the strife-torn Kandhamal district of Orissa on Saturday.
The incident took place around 4 pm when the security personnel tried to prevent a 300-strong mob from attacking Christian families at Kurtamgarh village in Tumudibandha area of the district.
Police fired at
Police retaliated after a member of the mob fired at the policemen, injuring a CRPF havildar, Director General of Police Gopal Chandra Nanda said.
Earlier, the miscreants blocked all major roads leading to Tumudibandha to prevent security forces reaching the area.
Prohibitory orders
More than a dozen houses were burnt down in the same area on Friday evening by those protesting against the killing of VHP leader Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati.
Prohibitory orders continue to remain in force in most parts of the district. Night curfew also continued in several towns. Communal violence erupted in Kandhamal following the killing of the Swami Lakshmanananda and four others at Jalespata ashram near Tumudibandha on August 23.
