India former Foreign Minister Salman Kurshid on being attacked over his book and the way forward | Betwa Sharma (India Ahead)
NEW DELHI — Following the release of Sunrise over Ayodhya: Nationhood in Our Times, former Union Minister for External Affairs and Congress Party leader Salman Khurshid has been trolled for a comparison he makes between Hindutva and extremist groups like the Islamic State and Boko Haram in his new book about the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi verdict of the Supreme Court. From his own party, senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has been critical of the comparison. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra is trying to get the book banned in his state. Khurshid’s house in Nainital, Uttarakhand, was shot at and set on fire. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against around 20 people under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including rioting.
In this conversation, Khurshid, a former Member of Parliament from Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh, and a Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court, spoke of the attack, his book, and the way forward.
