Col. Purohit granted bail and will be reinstated in the Army!
Condemn the double standards practiced by the Indian State!!

Short History:

Abhinav Bharat is a Hindu right-wing terrorist organization based on the same lines as Abhinav Bharat Society of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The present Abhinav Bharat was formed in 2006 by Retd. Major Ramesh Upadhyay. Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, Swami Aseemanand, and some members of the RSS and Vishwa Hindu Parishad formed the core of this organization. This organization is accused of carrying out bomb blasts in Malegaon, Ajmer, Hyderabad and on the Samjhauta Express between 2006-08. Around 100 people have been killed and hundreds of others injured in these bomb blasts. The organization is said to have a large base in Madhya Pradesh and has recruited many youth from that state. Col. Shrikant Prasad Purohit claims to have ‘infiltrated’ this organization as part of the Intelligence personnel of the Indian Army. All the 3 main accused (Aseemanand, Thakur and Purohit) are now out on bail!

What was Col. Purohit’s role in Abhinav Bharat?

Abhinav Bharat swears to eliminate all those who oppose their ideology of a Hindu Rashtra.
According to the ATS chargesheet, Col. Purohit had suggested a new (bhagwa) flag for the Hindu Rashtra, a new Constitution and the formation of a ‘government in exile’ in either Israel or Thailand. Purohit is accused of providing RDX from the military supplies. His wife had claimed that he has immense hatred for Muslims.

Purohit claims he had infiltrated Abhinav Bharat as a Military Intelligence (MI) person and had given all possible information to his seniors. But many of his seniors claim that they had no idea and he had never briefed them. A question that comes up here is, if he was working on behalf of the MI, why did he and/or the Army not stop Abhinav Bharat from carrying out the bomb blasts? Was his job to play an active/passive role in all the activities of Abhinav Bharat? It is claimed that when the Maharashtra ATS started pointing fingers at Abhinav Bharat as a terrorist organisation, it was Purohit who asked all the members to change their cell phone numbers. Was this not done to shield the perpetrators of crime and hinder ATS investigations? And yet, the Supreme Court has granted him bail on the grounds that he would not have informed the Army bosses if he had not been “planted” by them.

It has now become common practice to honour military, paramilitary and police personnel clearly known to brazenly violate human rights. Major Leetul Gogoi, who had tied a Kashmiri civilian to a jeep as a human shield on election day in Kashmir, has been honoured with the Chief of Army Staff’s Commendation card. IGP S. R. P. Kalluri of Chhattisgarh, known for violating every human right including getting tribal women prisoners raped, has been felicitated with the prestigious Gallantry Award. And now, Col. Shrikant Prasad Purohit, whose role in the promotion of a terrorist Hindutva organization is so clear, has been granted bail and will be reinstated in the Indian Army, as he was never suspended because the Army was “confident” of his being innocent.

Thousands of innocent Muslim youth have been languishing in various jails for years on the mere suspicion of being associated with some bomb blast. Many have been acquitted for lack of any evidence, yet this has happened after many, many years for wrongful incarceration. The best years of lives of these innocent youth have been lost in imprisonment. And yet, even in the bomb blasts carried out by Abhinav Bharat, the initial suspects were Muslim youth. It took the Indian State a long while to accept that terrorism could “also” be the handiwork of Hindutva outfits, when it is a well-known fact that it was the Sangh Parivar that had brazenly mobilized Hindu youth for the razing of the Babri Masjid.

We, the Platform for Social Justice, condemn these double standards practiced by the Indian State in wrongfully indicting thousands of Muslim youth on mere suspicion of having links with any terrorist activity, while letting the Hindutva terrorists go scotfree!
