New Delhi, October 19
The Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha has decided to observe November 15 — the day Mahatama Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse was hanged — as “Balidan Divas” across the country.

Omji Maharaj, president of the Mahasabha, said the group would hold blood donation camps, organise plays on Godse’s life and distribute copies of “Gandhivadh Kyon” — a book authored by Gopal Godse, the younger brother of Godse, to commemorate November 15.

The Mahasabha has again planned to install Godse’s bust in his “temples”, including Meerut. Last time, the Meerut administration had put off its plan to build a temple for Nathuram Godse and install his bust.

Godse killed Gandhi at Delhi’s Birla Mandir on January 30, 1948, and was sentenced to death on November 8, 1949, after a trial. Godse was hanged in Ambala jail on November 15, 1949.

Omji said members of the organisation want to inform the people about Godse’s sacrifices and reasons behind them.

All-India Hindu Mahasabha president Chandra Prakash Kaushik said, “India is a democracy and let the public decide whether Godse was

right and was a patriot or a traitor.”
