GREATER NOIDA: In the midst of the communal tension following the lynching of Iqlakh, BJP on Wednesday held a meeting in a school in Dhoom Manikpur village under Dadri, where a resolution to hold a mahapanchayat was passed, which will deliberate on a demand for the release of the six people arrested for the lynching, and for stringent action against people involved in the alleged cow slaughter.
Local BJP leader Vichitra Tomar said the local BJP unit also condemned the incumbent SP government in the state for inaction. "We demand the release of all the people who have been arrested in connection with the Bisada incident, who are all innocent. We also demand legal action against those who are engaged in cow slaughter, as it is meant to incite sentiments of Hindus," he said. BJP also accused SP for the administrative failure that led to the incident. They said the incident could have been averted had the government acted on time in the matter.
The meeting lasted for nearly two hours. Afterwards, the BJP leaders decided to meet with GB Nagar district magistrate N P Singh on Thursday. Tomar said the local BJP unit will go ahead with the plan for the October 11 mahapanchayat if the district administration and the government fail to deliver "justice". "So far, we've not decided on the venue, but if the government does not pay heed to our demands, we will hold the mahapanchayat and protest for justice in the matter," he said.
Local BJP leaders are meeting people in and around Bisada village to gather support in the matter. "We've been meeting residents to gather support. We visited nearly a dozen villages on Wednesday and asked them to join us," he added. The meeting was attended by local BJP bigwigs, ex-state minister Nawab Singh Nagar and Srichand Sharma.
