Discussion Announcment: Intellectual freedom, Intolerance and Communal harmony in fascist times (25 Oct 2015, New Delhi)

Intellectual freedom, Intolerance and Communal harmony in fascist times
25th October, 2015 l 2.30 pm l Ajoy Bhwan, Delhi l

The current moment is one of ascendant fascism in India. Following the BJP's electoral victory in 2014, the country is currently witnessing a rising tide of reactionary attacks across different realms of society that pose a clear and present danger to both intellectual freedom and communal harmony.

How do we think about the links between attacks on independent academic knowledge production, attempts to curb secular forms of cultural expression, and the violence that is heaped upon minority communities in the current context? How do we build solidarity among the different groups who find themselves under siege by Hindutva's rising tide? And finally - what is the role of the Left in defending liberal rights and communal harmony in this volatile conjuncture?

These are the questions that will be at the heart of the interactive meeting which Joshi-Adhikari Institute of Social Studies (JAISS) is organising on 25th October, 2015, Sunday from 2.30 pm at Ajoy Bhawan, 15, Indrajeet Gupt Marg, opposite to Bal Bhawan, near ITO, Delhi.

Prof. Ram Puniyani will initiate the discussion and Prof. Arjun Dev will moderate the session.

Please do come and participate in the discussion.
