The normalization of violence is accompanied by an assault on the very capacity to think. Nationalism has been raised to the status of religion, and a means of legitimating lawlessness. Extremist discourses are the preferred mode of stifling intelligible speech and appealing to ‘hurt sentiment’. It is incumbent upon all thinking people to consider the meaning and perils of totalitarian politics.
