A case has been registered against the office-bearers of Hindu Yuva Vahini on a complaint filed by Aligarh Muslim University authorities, after the right wing outfit described the varsity as a "nursery of terror".

Additional District Magistrate Awdhesh Tiwari said that a case was registered against the state president of the Hindu Yuva Vahini and three others under various sections of the IPC yesterday for hurting "religious sentiments" and posing threat to public peace. He said that the case had been registered on an official complaint by the Aligarh Muslim University authorities charging the Vahini leaders of "deliberately issuing communal statements designed to create unrest amongst AMU students".

AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar, who had filed the complaint on behalf of the university, today alleged that vahini leaders had described AMU as a "nursery of terror" on Wednesday at a press conference here. Abrar said that the "vahini leaders also made a wild, baseless and highly provocative allegation stating that AMU students are in touch with terror outfit Islamic State (IS)." He said that the vahini leaders allegation was not only the result of a "distorted" view of history but seeks to undermine the stellar role played by AMU alumni in the freedom movement of the country.

"AMU is a bastion of India's syncretic culture and has contributed immensely to all sphere of national life. We will certainly not be deterred by such wild allegations and will continue to play our due role in the task of nation building," AMU Vice Chancellor Lt Gen (Rtd) Zameer Uddin Shah said while reacting strongly to this allegation. Shah said that the AMU community across the world was deeply hurt at this most reprehensible reference to them by leaders of an organisation which clearly wants to disturb communal harmony.

On Thursday and Friday AMU students had organised protests in different parts of the campus against the statements of the vahini leaders.
