India: Artificial ponds to prevent water pollution anti-Hindu, says Hindu Janajagruti Samiti

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), a right-wing organisation, has opposed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s artificial ponds project which is gaining popularity among Mumbaikars for immersion of Ganpati idols. HJS said the concept was against Hindu religious customs which demanded that the idols be immersed in flowing water. HJS further alleged that BMC officials were turning a blind eye towards environmental pollution caused by chemical industries, sewage water and garbage throughout the year and only targeting Ganeshotsav which was celebrated but once a year.
