These trends are documented in the meticulous report prepared by ANHAD. This report has contributions from different social activists and scholars. This report presents different facets of the government policies. It is clear that the underlying communal agenda of this Government is in full flow, despite the statements of PM that all faiths will be respected. Along with the report Anhad has also released the set of videos on the same theme. The speakers in these videos are those who have been carefully watching the social affairs. This Government on one side wants to let the communal agenda flow, on the other there is all out attempt to stifle the social activists and NGOs whose voice they are not comfortable with. Teesta Setalvad, the frontline fighter for defense of democratic rights is being harassed by all the means which this Government can use. Apart from putting many cases against her and her husband Javed Anand, now the Government has instituted CBI inquiry into her accounts. This Government has also tried to muzzle one of her funders, Ford Foundation. In this issue we carry two remarkable interviews; one is by Subhadra Joshi. This is a vintage interview and outlines the anguish of a citizen about the rising tide of communal politics. Second is from Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, who is pained to no end with the developments which one is witnessing from last quite some time, more so from last one year. We also carry the obituary note on dear friend; the outstanding columnist and dogged activist, Praful Bidwai, who contributed on most crucial areas like Communalism, Nuclear disarmament among others.
