There are atrocities against Dalits and social and economical conditions of Dalits are still remaining dismal. This book discuss the rootedness of caste system in Indian society, attempts of Phule and Ambedkar to reform through people movements, and how “Hindutva’, the majoritarian identity politics adversely affected the aspirations of the untouchables.
