Uproar in the Rajya Sabha over a "son-guaranteeing'' medicine" being sold by the yoga guru's pharmacy

In the face of an uproar in the Rajya Sabha over a “son-guaranteeing'' medicine “being sold by yoga guru Baba Ramdev's pharmacy'', the Government on Friday agreed to look into the issue and see how the product was issued a license.

The matter was raised by Janata Dal (United) member K. C. Tyagi who wanted to know how a person selling such a product could be made brand ambassador of Haryana where the ‘Beti BachaoBeti Padhao' scheme was launched.

Several members of the Opposition joined Mr. Tyagi in demanding an enquiry and action against the pharmacy. Jaya Bachchan (Samajwadi Party) said the medicine should be banned. Sitaram Yechury (Communist Party of India Marxist) said such a product not only promoted obscurantism but also went against scientific temper.

And, Ghulam Nabi Azad said the license of the product should be cancelled pending enquiry.
