Kolkata: Maulana Anisur Rahman Qasmi, director of Patna-based Imarat-e Shariah and member of executive committee of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, has said media is targeting Islamic laws and using the media, a section of the society is demanding a change in Islamic laws.
“Using the media, a section of the society is demanding a change in Islamic laws due to little knowledge and seeking to implement Uniform Civil Code in the country. This is a direct attack on the freedom of religion,” Qasmi told a press conference here on Saturday, March 7, 2015.

Imarat-E Shariah Phulwari Sharif is a social, religious and welfare organization, working in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal for almost nine decades.
Imarat-e Shariah Phulwari Sharif and AIMPLB jointly runs a campaign programme throughout eastern India to remove the misconception about Islam, Shariah and Muslims, Maulana Anisur Rahman said during the press conference. They met advocates and media persons to sort out the doubts through discussion in the light of Islamic law and Shariah. “But it is a fact that lack of knowledge about Islam leads to suspicion,” the leaders said.
Maulana Anisur criticised the role of media and said, “Media has some misconception about Islam, Shariah and Muslim. So we need to send out the real message of Islam to reach the people.”
Indian constitution provided complete freedom to every citizens of India, he said, adding, “As per rights of their freedom, Muslims are practicing religious rules in personal law.”
Maulana Anisur also said, “There are detailed directions about marriage, divorce, inheritance and Khulla Talaq in Islamic laws. There is no suspicion of oppression and tyranny. Islamic law gives equal rights to men and women. That ‘women have been oppressed in Islamic laws’ is only a propaganda nothing else.”
Imarat-e Shariah has been arranging a get together programme with Muslim intellectuals and clerics in this regards, the Maulana informed and added, “To make a peaceful society, one needs justice and justice is the best `Ibadat’ (Prayer).”
Vice moderator Maulana Sanaullah Qasmi said a big misconception about Islamic law is creating disturbances and suspicion in the society in general. “This is carried by a section of media. Media’s misconception that ‘Muslims don’t believe in the law and they want their own Shariah only’ is totally wrong. But the fact is Muslims are complying on the law and the laws of the land are giving freedom for the Muslim personal law.”
He also said, Indian constitution has given freedom to run personal law.
Maulana Muhammad Shafique, imam of the Nakhoda Mosque, said, “Most of the people in our society cannot understand Islamic Shariah, so it creates much misconceptions. If any Muslim is personally engaged in any illegal elements, then they try to blame Islam but not that person, which is unfortunate. For any guilty, no one should condemn his religion. Imarat-E Shariah is working to remove these kind of misconceptions in the eastern India.”
Qazi Zamiruddin of Imarat-E Shariah was also present at the press conference.
Imarat-E Shariah is running a system working towards easing the burden of cases on the Indian courts in the plight of Muslim personal law. The members are devoted to the society without distinction of religion and faith, who are affected with the natural calamities. Apart from this, Imarat-E Shariah is also running several educational and technical training institution for the poor intelligent students of the society in Bihar and other parts of Eastern India.
