India: Khudai Khidmatgar Unity March in Delhi against the attack on Minorities

Khudai Khidmatgar Unity March against the attack on Minorities

20th March 2015

Khudai Khidmatgar New Delhi chapter taking forward the secular and non-violent ethos of the great freedom fighter Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, have organised recently a unity march to express solidarity against and condemn the recent spurt of violence that has occurred against the minorities in India. The latest being the inhuman act of rape of a 71-year-old nun at a convent school in West Bengal, attack on Churches in several parts of India. Khudai Khidmatgar terms these incidents as not just attacks on religious groups but also a systematic attempt to pollute the harmonious culture.

They add that for centuries India is home to all great religions of the world and is known for harmonious co-existence of different religious faiths. The Constitution of India declares the nation to be a secular republic that must uphold the right of citizens to freely worship and propagate any religion or faith. At this time when several anti-social elements are busy in their attempts to disturb the peaceful air. We the civilians unanimously stand for peace, non-violence and unity with the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan, Bhagat Singh, Dr Ambedkar and Mother Teresa. We believe that there is no scope of advocacy of such acts of hatred in a civilized society. Whosoever believes in peaceful and united society cannot compromise with these forms of activity against a particular group (Religious Minorities) of people in a cultural milieu that is mixed and has syncretic traditions since time immemorial. All such incidents are against spirit of India and are condemned.

A inter faith “UNITY MARCH –against attack on minorities” as “united we stand for peace and composite culture” was organised by them. People from all walks of life have participated in it to show their solidarity and support. The march begun from Masjid Khalilullah with the deliberations of Muslim Religious Leaders march towards Jamia Millia Islamia University and ends at Masih garh Church in Sukhdev Vihar where the march ends with all religious prayer.
