India: Hindutva moral police in Goa want ban on smoking and liquor on New Year's Eve at places of pilgrimage, historical places and tourist spots

PANAJI: Protesting the consumption of liquor and tobacco at pilgrimage and heritage sites in the state, the National Hindu Movement held an agitation at Hutatma Chowk, Mapusa, and have asked authorites to take action to prevent malpractices occurring on New Year's Eve.

Organizers have demanded a ban on the consumption of liquor and smoking on December 31 at places of pilgrimage, historical places and tourist spots.

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Sanatan Sanstha, Ranaragini, Divyajagruti Pratisthan, Amma Bhagwan Sampraday, Shivsena and other organizations came together under the umbrella group of the National Hindu Movement and have also demanded stringent action against forced conversions and foreign organizations that used financial lures to garner fresh converts, the group said.

The agitation began at the Maruti Mandir near Hutatma Chowk, after which organizers outlined the purpose of the agitation.
