[The Aam Admi party seems to be competing with many other puritanical poltical parties India to ban liquor shops . . . we are headed for conservative consensus where witch hunts in the name of purity and culture may follow. The ABVP on campus couched its love jihad like moral policing campaign in the name of women's safety. The AAP if they win in Delhi state Elections of 2015 will be only a few shades different from say the BJP as far as their cultural conservatism goes.]

Kejriwal promises city women the power to shut down liquor outlets

If voted to power, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would empower the city women to pass resolutions to shut down liquor shops in their localities. This was among the slew of promises that AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal made to a crowd that had come to attend the second Delhi Dialogue, the party’s latest initiative to connect with the Capital’s citizens.

At the public meetings that the AAP’s women’s wing had conducted in the run-up to the second Dialogue with women issues as the focus, most women had shared their agony of being either harassed or tortured by drunken men, both at homes and in public places. The party on Wednesday set its agenda to woo women voters by promising CCTVs connected with Wi-Fi across the Capital, more courts to deal with women-related cases, and adequate streetlights on roads.
