Turkey's Foreign Ministry posted a statement on its website saying the decision to execute one of the leaders of Bangladeshi Jamaat-e-Islami Party, Abdul Quader Molla, despite international efforts and concerns, including Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan himself, caused indignation and regret.

The statement condemned the execution and said "May God have mercy upon him."

The statement reminded that President Abdullah Gül made both bilateral and international efforts to avoid this regretful event from happening, adding that Turkey is concerned that such a mentality in Bangladesh could raise tensions even more.
