Announcement: Third Prof. Iqbal Ansari Memorial Lecture (New Delhi: 22 November 2013)


New Delhi: Third Prof. Iqbal Ansari Memorial Lecture will be held on Friday, 22nd November 13. The lecture will be delivered by Advocate Vrinda Grover on the topic of “Communal Violence and the Question of Justice: Notes from the Field and the Courtroom” at FTK-CIT Hall of Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, 3 PM onwards. The National Commission for Minorities (NCM)’ Member and Professor of Education at Jamia, Farida Abdullah Khan will chair the lecture.

Advocate Grover is a senior human rights lawyer at the Delhi High Court and a research fellow at prestigious Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, Delhi. This year the Time Magazine listed her as one of the 100 most influential persons of the world for the year of 2013. She will be speaking about her experiences of working with victims and survivors of communal and state violence, right from 1984’s anti-Sikh pogrom.

The lecture is instituted by the friends, comrades and students of late Professor Iqbal Ansari and the last two lectures were delivered by former Civil Servant turned Activist, Harsh Mander and the People’s Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL)’s national general secretary, Adv. V Suresh. Prof. Iqbal Ansari was a noted civil liberties activist and researcher associated with various organisations and groups across India and abroad. He passed away in the year of 2009 on 13th October.
