The all-party meeting of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday decided to endorse a ban on the display of "female mannequins" in shops near main roads. They want the mannequins displayed inside the shops.
The proposal for the ban was moved by Shiv Sena leader Ashok Harnawal, who said such mannequins were against the Indian culture. About a month back Shiv Sena had made a similar demand in Mumbai.
In Mumbai, the party has stated that such mannequins, "lead to sex crimes". In Pune, the party has asked shops on Laxmi Road to display mannequins inside the shops. A policy for this would be developed soon, the meeting decided today. [. . .]
