Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel has asked the party's state executive members to target bhajan mandalis, religious organisations, senior citizens' morning meetings, kitty parties and community functions to reach out to voters and increase the party's chances of winning the upcoming Assembly elections.

During the first meeting of newly nominated state executive members on Tuesday, there were many suggestions on how the party should win the elections. Goel urged members to put up hoardings, posters and distribute their visiting cards so that people recognise them.

"We have asked members to participate in kitty parties, religious functions and broaden their base," Goel said.

The party passed a political resolution on Tuesday, slamming the Delhi government for its "complete failure on all fronts". The state executive committee also demanded full statehood for Delhi.

Former national BJP president Murli Manohar Joshi said: "Party must focus on marginalised sections of the society while preparing for polls. Delhi is ready for change after 14 years of misrule by Congress. The victory in Assembly polls would also help the party form a government at the Centre."

Vijay Goel said if the party comes to power, it would end multiplicity of authorities in Delhi. "The key issues in the Assembly polls will be power, water, lack of development in villages, unauthorised colonies, JJ clusters and slums," Goel said.

He said party members are holding mass contact programmes on issues related to the public. "The response both within the party as well as outside has been very encouraging and it indicates that people in Delhi are looking for change," Goel said.

The party's national organisational secretary Ram Lal was hopeful of BJP's victory. "All over the country, the BJP is in an upbeat mood. People are tired of Congress rule and BJP has emerged as a viable alternative," he said.

National general secretary Ananth Kumar claimed that the BJP cadre in Delhi is ready to remove Congress government and get the party back to power.

A short film was also screened during the meeting, which gave glimpses of the various initiatives, protests and issues taken up by the Delhi BJP recently.

The film, however, upset many party members. "The film showed Goel and our contribution to it was neglected," a member said.

Leaders who kept away from meetings convened by Goel were seen at the state executive meeting. However, according to party sources, many of them left before the meeting concluded.

The state executive meeting was attended by many senior BJP leaders, including Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra, national headquarter in-charge O P Kohli, former BJP presidents Mange Ram Garg and Vijendra Gupta, national secretaries Shyam Jaju, Arti Mehra and Vani Tripathi, Haryana unit in-charge Jagdish Mukhi, members of national executive Nand Kishore Garg and Pravesh Kumar Verma.road sinks
