Indore: With arrests of three accused in a series of bomb blasts suspected to have been carried out by saffron extremists from this sleepy town in one month, Depalpur has emerged as an operational hub of recruitment and plotting of terror attacks.
The arrest of Rajendra Chudhary alias Samundar, one of accused in Samjhauta Express blasts, is believed to strengthen the NIA's notion about Depalpur's notoriety. Choudhary pointed out that Sunil Joshi, a RSS leader who was shot dead in Dewas in 2007, was the man behind the attacks.
"Guruji (Sunil Joshi) trusted our group most. He used to assign important tasks to the boys of our area (Depalpur)" Choudhary is believed to have told NIA during interrogation.
An NIA investigating officer told DNA that Choudhary revealed that Joshi started spreading network in the area when he was posted as RSS Pracharak for Depalpur in 1999-2000. He made an action wing during this tenure".
NIA sources claimed that Joshi made his hideout in Depalpur area after his name surfaced in the murder of Congress leader Pyaarsingh Ninama in Khurdi village of Manpur in 2003. He stayed in Depalpur area for several weeks without trouble.
"Choudhary further revealed that two persons of Depalpur and adjacent area were involved in Ninama murder case being investigated by the agency.
He is also believed to have said that Joshi had made an unsuccessful attempt of testing intensity of bombs near at Depalpur Resham Kendra. He used to keep explosives in a cowshed on the border of the village" claimed sources.
After Joshi was killed in December 2007, Kamal Chouhan, Dhan Singh, Tejram and Sandeep Upadhyay left their houses due to fear they might be killed.
The NIA arrested four youths of Depalpur for their alleged connection in Samjhauta Express bomb blast, Malegan, Ajmer Shrine and Mecca Masjid (Hyderabad) bomb blast cases.
As per the sources, the agency may arrest some other suspects from the area.
