From: India Today Sajjan Kumar conspired with cops during 1984 anti-Sikh riots: CBI Mail Today Bureau New Delhi, April 24, 2012 | UPDATED 13:27 IST The CBI pointed to a "conspiracy of terrifying proportions" between Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and the local police during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, as it concluded arguments in a case involving the death of six persons in Delhi Cantonment. Arguing in the court of district judge J. R. Aryan, CBI prosecutor R. S. Cheema said the violence against the Sikhs in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi's assassination had been committed on Kumar's directions. "There was a conspiracy of terrifying proportions with the complicity of the police and patronage of local MP Sajjan Kumar," Cheema told the court. Kumar and five others are accused of having incited mobs to violence during the riots. A key portion of the CBI's case is that the local police, as a result of Kumar's patronage, decided to look away from the violence, thereby protecting the Congress leader.
