PUCL urges Govt to take action against BJP outfits
Bangalore, Apr 1 : People's Union for Civil Liberties(PUCL) today urged the Karnataka Government to take stern action against BJP outfits, Bajarang Dal(BD), Hindu Jagaran Vedike(HJV), Hindu Jagaran Samiti(HJS), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) and Sri Ram Sene(SRS) for their cultural policing in Daxina Kannada district.
Talking to newspersons here after releasing a report on the attacks on women by the Fact Finding Committee(FFC), PUCL city-unit president Ramdas Rao said the Government should ensure that self-styled groups running a parallel administration were prevented from imposing their own moral code on the people of the district and supplanting the Constitution.
Mr Rao also demanded re-opening of cases withdrawn by the BJP Government earlier against the people, who were involved in fomenting communal tensions in the State.
The attack on women in the pub or attack on people, who dared to cross religious boundaries and interact, point to a new phase of communal politics, he added.
He said the self-styled vigilant groups were targeting youth in the name of moral policing.
