Dear Editor,
At the concluding session of the seminar on “Alternative Strategies for Development” held in Bhopal, Ms. U. Bharti, concurrently Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and sannyasin of firmly fixed abode, said that earlier governments had failed to achieve anything because they did not invite the participa- tion of “sadhus and saints”. She intended, she declared, to rectify this error.
It will be logical to construct a Saints’ House in Bhopal, modelled after a grand hotel but with temple carvings on the outside, and situated within spacious grounds in which the cows of the seers may roam and browse. While the main building can easily be centrally air conditioned so that the holy men remain comfortable despite their numerous havan fires, no equipment is known to be made which is specially adapted to the needs of holy bovines.
I suggest that a factory to manufacture Cow Conditioners be set up outside Bhopal. This will both provide employment to many workers and enable Ms. U. Bharti to lead central India rapidly to heaven by swelling its hoard of merit.
