Hindutva’s Big Lie - a poem by a secular Hindu

Hindutva’s Big Lie

Vasudaiva Kutumbakam,* they do proclaim.
But ‘foreign faiths’ are in the way they claim.

“I’m Muslim,” one dare declare.
“Go back to Pakistan,” they blare.
Vasudaiva Kutumbakam, they do proclaim…
Muslims excluded.

“I’m Christian,” one dare declare.
“Minister not to our poor,” they swear.
Vasudaiva Kutumbakam, they do proclaim…
Christians excluded.

“I’m Kharia, I’m Toda, I’m Khasi from the hills,” one dare declare.
“No, you’re Hindu who strayed away,” they say.
Vasudaiva Kutumbakam, they do proclaim…
Adivasis excluded.

“I’m Dalit and I won’t take it anymore,” one dare declare.
“No, you are Harijan, beware
of foreign faiths you must first forswear.”
Vasudaiva Kutumbakam, they do proclaim…
Dalits excluded.

“I’m Hindu and you don’t speak for me,” one dare declare.
‘Anti-India,’ ‘Hinduphobic,’ abuses with which they scare.
Vasudaiva Kutumbakam, they do proclaim…
Secular Hindus excluded.

Vasudaiva Kutumbakam, though they may proclaim,
the whole world knows their game, what a shame.
Hindutva Kutumbakam is all that they are,
the family that demeans and destroys in our name.

— The voice of a secular Hindu

* Vasudaiva Kutumbakam is a noble Upanishadic thought meaning, “The world is one family”

India: Javed Jaffrey’s shayari on intolerance

The Indian Express

Gaay Hindu ho gaye aur bakra Musalman ho gaya: Javed Jaffrey’s shayari on intolerance

[. . .]

Nafraton ka asar dekho,
Janwaron ka batwara ho gaya,
Gaye Hindu ho gayee aur bakra Musalman ho gaya.

Ye ped ye patte ye shakhein bhi pareshan ho jayein,
Agar parinde bhi Hindu aur Musalman ho jayein.

Sukhe mewe bhi ye dekh kar pareshan ho gaye,

Aur Hinduon ke hisse bas gajar aur tamatar hi aayenge

Ab samajh nahin aa raha is tarbooz kiske hisse jayega,
Yeh toh bechara upar se Musalman aur andar se Hindu reh jayega.

(Such are the effects of hatred, even animals have been divided,
the cow has become a Hindu, and the goat a Muslim.

Even the trees, the leaves and branches would lose all patience,
if the birds next were to be divided into Hindus and Muslims.

The sweets are all very confused,
knowing not when coconuts became Hindu and dates Muslim.

The way religion is dividing everything,
that green is now a colour of Muslims and red for Hindus,
Then even that day isn’t far off, when all the green vegetables would belong to the Muslims,
and Hindus would be left with carrots and tomatoes.

Now, here is a conundrum — what does the poor watermelon do?
It’s Muslim on the outside, but from inside a Hindu.)

India: आग कुरेदोगे, चिंगारी दामन तक तो आएगी..[aag kuredoge, chingari daaman tak to aayegi...]. Hindi text from a ghazal by poet Gauhar Raza that is under attack for being anti national

a poem by Gauhar Raza / गौहर रज़ा [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gauhar_Raza]

[IN ROMAN SCRIPT]

aag kuredoge, chingari daaman tak to aayegi...

Dharm me lipti watan parasti kya kya swang rachayegi,
masli kaliyan, jhulsa gulshan, zard khizaan dikhlayengi..
Europe jis vahshat se ab bhi sehma sehma rehta hai,
khatra hai wo vahshat mere mulq mein aag lagayegi..
German gaskado (gas chambers) se ab tak khoon ki badboo aati hai,
andhi watan parasti hum ko us raste le jayegi..
Andhe kuen me jhooth ki naav tez chali thi maan liya,
lekin bahar roshan dunia tum se sach bulwayegi..
Nafrat me jo pale badhe hain, nafrat me jo khele hain,
nafrat dekho aage aage unse kya karwayegi..
Fankaron se pooch rahe ho kyun lautaye hain samman,
Poocho, kitne chup baithe hain, sharm unhe kab aayegi..
Yeh mat khao, wo mat pehno, ishq to bilkul karna mat,
deshdroh ki chap tumhare upar bhi lag jayegi..
Yeh mat bhulo agli naslein roshan shola hoti hain,
aag kuredoge, chingari daaman tak to aayegi...

Two Poems on Communalism

by B.R. Gowani
[25 November 2007]

Ahmadi Muslims are Achhuts (1)

every ism, religion, caste, and creed
wants more people to feed its greed
the bigger the number means power more
and it always helps to fix some score

to enlist more, Islam is in the field
like others, it wants power to wield
but it doesn’t want Ahmadis with them
whereas they want to hold Islam’s hem

however, Ahmadis can’t openly profess
because bigot theologians won’t bless
non-Muslims they were pronounced, yes
in 1973 by Z. Bhutto and so this mess

Old Testament prophets are ok for Islam
Jesus Bhai ok, then it loses its calm
Muhammad is “seal of prophets,” the last
Mirza Ghulam came later, not being fast

Mirza G. Ahmad as prophet, Ahmadis see
unacceptable, Muslims want them to flee
lacking arms or too much political force
very few, they have accepted the course

High Castes and Shudras (2)

we’re losing members, Hindu zealots cry
other religions are taking from our pie
they never think, are all Hindus the same
and for the castes where lies the blame

the Brahmin or priestly caste is on top
Kshatriya or warriors/kings caste is cop
then comes the Vaishya or merchant caste
the menial class or Shudra is the last

many sub-castes there are, don’t forget
who are always under some or other threat
Dalits, Untouchables, or Scheduled tribes,
their fate is the same bemoan the scribes

Harijans or God’s people Gandhi named them
low caste is still treated as dirt not gem
their sad fate is abuse, murder, and rape
“the largest democracy” is out of shape

water-wells are of castes low and high
in many villages under the Indian sky
all wells are available to the castes high
only their own wells to the low ones, why?
