Anti-Muslim riots and Justice in India (Gujarat)

You are invited to an event on Anti-Muslim riots in the state of Gujarat, India. In 2002, over 2,000 Muslims were killed and hundreds of Muslim women were gang raped by Hindu mobs. So far few if any were brought to justice for these crimes.

When: July 8th (Tuesday)

Speakers:

Nashrin Hussain is the daughter of former Member of Parliament, Ahsan Jafri, who was burnt to death by Hindu rioters during the Gujarat riots in 2002. Mr. Jafri was one of the top party officials of the Indian National Congress Party, current governing party of India. In the aftermath of Gujarat massacre, she worked with several organizations to bring justice to the victims of Gujarat violence.

Teesta Setalvad is a Mumbai based civil rights activist and journalist. She reported for the Mumbai editions of The Daily (India) and The Indian Express newspapers. Appalled by the communal violence during the Bombay Riots, she, along with activist husband Javed Anand, quit full-time journalism in 1993 to start a monthly magazine Communalism Combat. In 2007, she was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her role in "Public Affairs in Maharashatra."

Mr. R. B. Sreekumar was the Additional Director General of Police and Chief Intelligence Officer in Gujarat during the brutal mass murder of Muslims and rape of Muslim women by Hindu mobs. He left the job after the riots and is speaking out about what happened during Gujarat riots.
