Just three days into campaigning and Aam Aadmi Party found itself on a sticky wicket after an “unauthorized“ banner, showing party chief Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi together and saying `Delhi Speaks Modi for PM Arvind for CM', greeted people when they opened the party's web page on Friday evening.

The banner was taken off within a short span but not before hundreds saw it and AAP was targeted on social media for endorsing Modi and using his image to bolster its prospects.

While initially denying that there was any such official campaign material, the party later accepted that the banner had been put up by a volunteer handling the website and had been asked to remove it since it was not approved. Dilip Pandey , party spokesperson tweeted that most things in AAP are volunteer driven, including the web where a volunteer created and posted a non-approved image by mistake.

Sources said there was no question of objecting to the text since the banner had not even sent for approval. However, they did acknowledge that greater care would have to be taken in future since a similar faux pas could prove to be embarrassing .

AAP , and Kejriwal more specifically, have been pitching for a strong leader at the Centre and state, respectively . The party's ongoing campaign also makes this point that Modi, even though he may be a strong leader, is at the Centre while Delhi needs its own strong leader to manage the city .

O O O
